Genesys Cloud Configuration Management: Why InProd is a Leader
Genesys Cloud is one of the most widely deployed contact centre platforms in the world, trusted by organisations across industries to power the customer experiences they deliver every day. So when Genesys turns its attention to a challenge their customers face and writes about it, it reflects something they're seeing at scale. Their recent blog article on configuration management does exactly that, and in making their case, they referenced InProd.
InProd solves a problem most contact centres are still struggling with
Managing configuration changes in a live contact centre environment is harder than it looks. Routine updates, changing IVR prompts, adjusting operating hours, modifying routing, all carry real risk. Genesys identified two approaches that most contact centres default to for IVR management and broader configuration changes, and pointed out that both have serious disadvantages.
The first is giving the business direct access to make changes. The problem, as Genesys noted, is that this puts non-technical users in a system they often do not fully understand. Without input validation or contextual guidance, the potential for error is significant. The second approach is raising a change request to a technical team. That removes the risk of user error, but it introduces delay, and in a contact centre environment, delay has a direct impact on the business.
Genesys also flagged something that often gets overlooked: the issue of time-based changes. If an error is made on something like operating hours, it may not be caught until much later. And without a proper audit trail, "it can be tricky to determine what the last-working values were." That gap between making a change and catching a mistake is exactly where InProd comes in.
InProd gives business users confidence without removing control
Genesys highlighted InProd's ability to let engineers design changes once and make them available through a business-facing interface. Rather than choosing between giving users too much access or too little, InProd creates a middle ground where the boundaries of a change are defined by engineers, and business users operate confidently within those boundaries.
The result, in Genesys's own words, is that "contextual help, input validation and auditing empowers business users to make these changes with confidence." Each of those three elements matters. Contextual help means users understand what they are changing and why it matters. Input validation means the system catches errors before they reach production. Auditing means there is always a clear record of what changed, when it changed, and who made the change. For IVR management specifically, where a small misconfiguration can immediately affect the experience of every caller, that level of control is not optional. It is essential.
InProd eliminates the delays that cost contact centres agility
Routing IVR management and BAU changes through a technical team adds unnecessary delay. Genesys made this point clearly, noting that InProd removes that bottleneck entirely, giving "the business agility and freeing up technical resources to add value in other areas."
That last point is worth sitting with. The cost of poor configuration management is not just the risk of errors. It is also the ongoing drain on technical resources who are handling requests that, with the right tooling, the business could manage themselves. Every IVR management change request that goes through a technical team unnecessarily is time that could have been spent on work that actually requires technical expertise. Genesys framed InProd as the solution that restores that balance.
InProd fits into a broader DevOps vision for the contact centre
Genesys framed InProd within the context of DevOps, where speed and quality are not a trade-off but a standard. For many contact centres, the idea of applying DevOps principles to IVR management and configuration management still feels aspirational. Genesys's position is that the right tooling makes it practical, not theoretical.
They pointed to the possibility of deploying and testing production changes "with a click of a button," putting an end to "lengthy, late-night deployments." That shift alone represents a significant operational improvement for any contact centre running complex Genesys environments. But Genesys also went further, highlighting the value of connecting configuration management to customer experience assurance. When InProd is integrated with a platform like Cyara, configuration changes and affected test cases update in sync. No false alarms. No blind spots. No monitoring gaps created by a change that the assurance platform was not aware of. Just consistent, verified delivery at every stage.
That is the operational maturity Genesys is advocating for, and InProd is the tool they pointed to by name.
